PAPI lights (Precision Approach Path Indicators) is the part of runway illumination at airports, airfields, and airstrips. PAPI lights belong to approach lighting system of the airport. They help pilots to maintain the correct approach and warn about too low or too high approach.
Traditional PAPI lights are powered by 6.6A electrical grid, and connected to airfield lighting electrical network.
In some cases, airports cannot use wired PAPI lights due to many reasons:
For such cases, the airport uses S4GA portable PAPI lights that are independent of the MAINS power grid. Mobile PAPI lights are easily transportable and can be used on different airfields.
