On September 1st, S4GA solar airfield lighting offered by Approach Navigation Systems has been announced the winner of Elliot Lake Airport Tender for a new runway lighting system.
For some time now Elliot Lake Airport in Canada has struggled with an almost 40 year’s old wired RWY lighting. The system has been showing its insufficiency with several problems like lights no longer working and underground cable splicing. Conducted power study recommended solar-powered LED lighting solution as it would eliminate the use of ineffective underground systems.
In that high need for innovative and cost-efficient solutions, S4GA solar runway lighting proved to be the best fit for the Canadian airport. Together with its local partner Approach Navigation Systems, S4GA will provide a full permanent Solar Runway Lighting for Elliot Lake Airport.
In choosing tender’s winner, the government considered a few key factors indicating S4GA the leader with advanced solar technology:
Efficiency
S4GA airport lighting operates continuously 365 days a year on solar energy. The system is easy to install and requires minimum maintenance that can be performed by local engineers.
Technology
Conducted tests and measurements proved S4GA solar airfield light to meet the specific requirements of the harsh Canadian environments (e.g. limited solar potential, low temperatures). S4GA’s Rapid Charging Technology allows obtaining 100% battery level within only a few hours charging. Large power banks integrated into SP-401 lighting units keep the system operational in the periods of no sunshine. Learn more by watching this short movie:
Safety
S4GA system is a power-safe runway lighting which means it will keep operational regardless of power supply issues or loss of one or few lights. It is possible with 5-Level protection against system failure which S4GA runway lighting is equipped with.
Cost-saving solution
Because S4GA’s technology uses only solar energy, airport will pay zero electricity bills. Solar system not only saves airport’s money but reduces its CO2 emissions putting airport closer to carbon neutrality. Additionally, cost savings from the elimination of underground cables and transformers, and ground digging works related, would cover the cost of LED solar lights batteries that come with a full 5-year warranty.
